Hello 2012!!

February 2nd, 2012

.: SELF EXPOSURE :.

Knew Conscious Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Amanda Sage, “Self Exposure”.

Please join us for an opening reception with the artist, Saturday, February 11th at 8:00 pm.
2700 Walnut St., Denver, Colorado 80205

www.knewconsciousgallery.com

“The whole of humankind is in each one of us. In both the conscious and the unconscious. One is the result of thousands of years; embedded in each one us – as one can find, if one knows how to delve into it, go deeply inside – is the whole history, the whole knowledge, of the past.” –Krishnamurti-

I left nothing hidden in my latest body of work, “Self Exposure.” It is my quest to reveal the mystery & power that lies within and provoke the lifting of the collective veil.

The largest piece in this show is ‘Ana-Suromai’ which is a life size self portrait. In this piece I am lifting my skirt to a corrupt system based on greed, based on the profiting in war, and mindless consumption of the masses. It symbolizes the awakening of our personal power, shocking one into introspection as this system is beginning to crumble.

We stand at a pinnacle in time, and as I paint I confront truth that lies behind the mystery of self. Many of these pieces began as live paintings during concerts, gatherings & festivals.

By releasing thought, faces began to center within the window of the egg, a mirror reflecting everything that has been and could be. I tuned into each character as their stories developed and as I painted I meditated and listened with heightened senses to the world around me. This allowed for a visual story to be told, weaving color and form, allowing meaning & purpose to reveal itself.

As seen with works previous to this collection, the egg has been a deeply reoccurring symbol in my work. It again is significant with this body of work as it acts as a vessel in which anything can be held or conceived. It is a time portal, a doorway to infinite possibilities, giving birth to constant change.

In my studio, these pieces matured while the vibrating frequency of a collective human evolution, of a revolution in consciousness, inspired each detail. I am inspired by the visionaries of today and yesterday, to build a bridge between their words and actions. I can feel the destructive patterns of the west dissolving away into a cooperative force fueled with respect and creativity. I see a train filled with infinite possibilities, inspiring a new wave of consciousness, spreading the seed of awakening in it’s flowing wake.

This year, 2012, is symbolizing a re-birth, a shedding of skin, and this collection represents my journey deep into myself, emerging a bright new perspective, and echoing the truth of the interconnectedness of everything in this universe.

Self Exposure will bring about questions that only you can answer. Perhaps this work could help de-code your journey, help bring an awareness of your next mission, or reconnect with your own life force. Perhaps this adventure will mark the beginnings of a fresh challenge that requires only you & I, to stop resisting, to let go, and dance… :)

AUGUST 2011 – Burning Man

September 30th, 2011

Aug. 29 – Sept. 4th – Burning Man 2011 – Rites of Passage

What an amazing time I had at Burning Man this year working with Jim Bowers on the Clock Tower Project & camping & exhibiting in the Visionary Art Gallery with Fractal Nation Village. I finished a large piece (5ft by 7ft) titled ‘Ana-Suromai’ that was presented in print form on the 8 o’clock tower on the Esplanade. The reviews were outstanding :)

Here is a photo taken by Jon Dooey of me doing a live painting on the 3 o’clock tower. This painting was then snatched by someone before it’s planned burning along with time… ‘Burning Time/ Clock Tower Project’. If anyone has any leads on where it’s ended up, it would be greatly appreciated:)

ANA-SUROMAI

August 27th, 2011

Ana-Suromai is derived from the Greek word meaning ‘to lift the skirt’.

‘ANA-SUROMAI’ egg tempera, casein & oil on linen – 53.5 x 79″
2005-2011

ana-suromai-detail-web

Also known as Anasyrma or plural: Anasyrmata; women have been lifting their skirts for centuries to ward off evil & enhance fertility. This symbolic act is also found in mythologies of various cultures all over the world, & specifically in those of ancient Egypt, Greece, Persia, Ireland, Africa, Indonesia & Japan.

It is said that the evil-averting gesture of women individually or collectively exposing their genitalia have the power to shame & defeat an advancing army. The act of revealing publicly the hidden core of womanhood initiates a process of change that operates on a world scale, as well as on an individual level.

“At some point in human history, female genitalia were considered potent enough to be used as the catalyst for bringing the earth and all life back from the brink of destruction”.

It is said that when Persephone was kidnapped into the underworld by Hades, her mother Demetra went into such mourning that life on earth began to wilt & die. It wasn’t until Baubo lifted her skirt & shocked her into laughter that vitality & fertility on earth was restored…Laughter being a key element in healing & resurrecting life.

-Excerpts from & inspired by Catherine Blackledge’s book ‘The Story of V’.

As a Global Culture we are currently going through a Rites of Passage. Confronted with the results of industrialization, corperate power & the intoxicating lie that we are seperate beings living on a systemized treadmill without the ability to change the course.

It is time to wake up as a collective species & recognize our common strengths. To support each other as empathetic beings longing for similiar things. To treat each other, the resources, the animals & earth with respect & gratitude..

The revolution is within….

I started painting this piece in 2005 after reading ‘The Story of V’ (very much recommended!!!) … & when I realized that I had to paint this… the very important question arose, for what would I actually raise my skirt? If there was an ultimatum, what was it?…. So in illustrating that ultimatum, I have used a lot of symbology…: In the center between my legs is the table of power, symbolizing World Power/ The Illuminati with 13 chairs & a map of the civilized world on the table… on the right are the people the ‘slaves to the system’… on the left is control, command, … war. My face is of ultimate expression, emotion, intensity… & am laying a bright & potentiated egg onto the table of power. It symbolizes new birth, & is striking out waves & electricity, meeting & transforming the 13 humans in the 13 chairs as they sit in silence. Where the energy/lightning strikes the earth new life is springing up, as they are surrounded by the results of civilization. Metatrons cube floats in front of my heart & a scarab representing re-birth is on a necklace around my neck. Behind me rise two rainbow feathered serpents who are acting as guides & supporting this advent of re-birth.

I began this painting in 2005 in Vienna & have now completed it for Burning Man 2011. The original will continue on to various shows TBA. A large print of it will be displayed on the 8 o’clock tower& Esplanade at Burning Man….

Posters of this painting are available in my ETSY shop )’(

2011 Summer Painting Seminar in Italy

August 5th, 2011

The 4th edition of Visions in the MischTechnik with Laurence Caruana & Amanda Sage, including extra Workshops by A. Andrew GonzalezMaura Holden, and special presentations by Carrie Ann Baade, came to a close on July 24th 2011.

What a magical summer we had, living in the idyllic eco village of Torri Superiore for 3 weeks while we explored the old master techniques in painting. Our bodies were nourished by the incredible local food prepared everyday for us by the crew at Torri Superiore. Many thanks to everyone who kept the coffee and tea hot and gave us the energy to create. Time stood still and worlds collided as relationships blossomed while a new mode of manifesting color on canvas was studied. Relaxing in the Ligurian Alps and cooling down in the river that runs through the valley, we felt elsewhere and completely connected to the planet and ourselves. This is honestly one of the most awesome settings to paint and immerse yourself in the technique…If you are interested for next summer’s seminar please contact me: Amandasageart@gmail.com
