Painting with Light LA 2.0 – 2017

In November 2015 the first Los Angeles ‘Painting with Light’ workshop was held
in our neighborhood of downtown and it was an epic success.

15 Visionaries came to expand their horizons and after a week of deep journey into materials, concepts and making new art friends we all left
with our worlds forever changed and expanded.

Painting with Light LA 2017 is going to take it all to the next level.
This isn’t the beautiful retreat off in a green jungle paradise, this is the last stop on the western frontier… the concrete jungle cocktail, myriad with the suffering and delusions of empirical civilization.
Some of the shiniest most beautiful things are found in places you’d least expect.

Let me introduce some of the key members in this Workshop experience:

Together with Shabnam Q, my chief partner in the Amanda Sage Collection venture, we are teaming up again to create a potent creative environment for this intensive…

Cheri Rae, one of the most enthusiastic and brilliant humans I’ve ever met will help nourish our bodies, minds and spirits with her team from L.O.V.E cafe.

And last but not least, I met my partner in love and life, Joe Bob Merritt,
at the first LA Workshop a year ago and we will be joining forces to deepen the integration of the power of art and spirit, for this painting thing is no small task, and this living thing is also no small task.

We know that Art has the ability to heal,
and we have the ability to heal ourselves first. With some tools, practice, incredible food and community everything is possible.

The heart of downtown LA happens to be where my studio has been
for the past 7 years, a place of great diversity and contrast.
Where one cannot escape the truth of the results of the American Empire… between skyscrapers and homelessness, I have found a community of light workers and we would like to share our reality with you.
Within the same building that the Workshop will be hosted in,
is my friend Cheri Rae’s legendary yoga studio and raw food kitchen
Peace Yoga Gallery. It also happens to be a place that hosts a large body of my original work. Some of the most high powered raw living plant based food will be included in the workshop for lunch. Food is medicine, art is medicine, movement is medicine. And whilst society continues to tumble down the road of “progress”,
the path of self empowerment, and healing begins within. It begins with everyday walkin’ talking’ life. This is part of the wisdom that Joe Bob will share with us.
Tools of transformational insight, diagrams and simple methods
of meditation and self observation.

Following a similar format to other painting intensives I have offered
around the world over the past 7 years, the goal is to add to the artists tool set of tricks and techniques as well as expanding the creative spirit in each of us.
This workshop is a perfect introduction or expansion into exploring the vast possibilities and uses of the Mischtechnik. Directly translated from German to English, Mischtechnik means: ‘mixed technique’. It was discovered by the Van Eyck brothers in the early renaissance and was revived by the Austrian painter Ernst Fuchs in the 1950’s. It has been adopted by many painters working with fantastic and visionary subject matter, as the transparencies and use of light in developing a painting are exquisite.

There are many contemporary variations of the Mischtechnik, and the wisdom and genius behind the layers has much to reveal.
During the intensive we will explore various uses and examples of materials through presentations and hands on experience, as well as creating a painting using a revised version of the Mischtechnik.
We will begin by observing what is, expanding our outer lens. As we push the boundaries of what can be, we will draw in the visionary realms of infinite potential.

Participants are welcome to work in just acrylic or both acrylic, casein and oil.
