Painting with Light in the Jungle 2.0 – 2019

* Painting with Light in the Jungle at Puntamona has now booked FULL *

If you’d like to hear about upcoming ones, send us your email address and we’ll let you know::

We held the first ever painting workshop there in March and had an incredible time. It definitely is not downtown LA, Vienna, Colorado or CoSM.
It is far from all of them in that we are the furthest out from civilization in a tropical permaculture paradise.
Let that set the tone…
Painting, swimming, eating fresh amazing food and making new friends, it’s a powerful place to get creative.

Join us for an unforgettable experience deep in the jungle of Costa Rica.
Dive into your imagination and learn tools for expressing it.
Dive into the ocean and into the jungle, commune with nature as the senses are enriched by the experience of a thriving eco-system. Become inspired by community as we all bring the gift of our unique vision to share in a supportive environment.

Painting with Light is a workshop series that Amanda Sage offers a few times a year in unique destinations around the world. Based on fundamental techniques, truths and tools that are the foundation of any successful work of art, her teachings are rooted in Renaissance painting and translated into contemporary mediums. She teaches in the same way that she approaches her own work, with an open heart and deep commitment. The time that we spend in creative union is one of the most valuable things we can do for our own healing and living a healthy life. Making Art is not something that is only limited to painting, drawing, sculpture… she believes it is a WAY of life, a perspective, a lens through which we have the choice to live in this life. We will begin by observing what is, expanding our outer lens. As we push the boundaries of what can be, we will draw in the visionary realms of infinite potential.

Each participant will be guided through the process of an acrylic painting, from start to finish, with a variety of exercises, demo’s and lectures throughout the week led by Amanda while Joe Bob weaves philosophical teachings into the experience. We will draw inspiration from the magic of the natural world as we expand and strengthen our outer as well as inner eye. Learning tools to render our visions. Conceptually we will follow an in-direct painting method similar to the Mischtechnik which classically uses egg tempera and oil paint in glazes. Due to humidity and drying times we will use high pigmented fluid Golden acrylics instead and achieve similar results.

Amanda Sage studied painting in Vienna, Austria under the guidance of Michael Fuchs during a 2 year apprenticeship when she was 19, which led to 10 years as an assistant with the master artist Ernst Fuchs. She helped found the Vienna Academy of Visionary Art in 2013 and has spent the past 10 years sharing her work worldwide in exhibitions, festivals and Live Painting. Amanda teaches annually at Alex & Allyson Grey’s Art Sanctuary in New York as well as the summer seminar in Italy, hosted by VAVA. She also helped initiate the Art in Paradise workshop series in Byron Bay, Australia and teaches annually in Los Angeles.

Joe Bob Merritt is particularly interested in the intersection of the visionary arts, mindfulness, and the creative process. He believes that art making provides one with innumerable opportunities to develop sensory clarity, strengthen concentration skills, and cultivate powers of equanimity. Joe Bob believes that the efforts that we as artists make in the cultivation of these skills contribute to the possibility of having direct experiences of freedom from mechanical conditioning and habitual re-actions, thus increasing the probability of intelligent, response-able, and creative activity in the midst of everyday life situations.
